GenreCon 2026: Inkling – Manga Script Comp

Queensland Writers Centre presents an innovative and cross-cultural new storytelling competition in partnership with Kaishi Professional University (Niigata, Japan).

Submit entries of short descriptive scripts up to 180 words; one Award-winning entry will be used as the basis of a 6-panel manga illustrated story, adapted by student artists at Kaishi Professional University, Nagata, Japan, under the tuition of professional manga artist and Professor, Faculty of Anime and Manga Arts, belne.

Guidelines

  • Entries should be original and unpublished.

  • Entries open to all Australian or New Zealand citizens or residents.

  • Multiple entries are permitted (please submit no more than 3).

  • Maximum 180 words.

    • Entries exceeding the word limit are ineligible.

  • Identifying information, including the author's name, should not appear anywhere in the submission.

  • All entrants will be notified of the outcome of their submission.

    • No feedback can be provided and no correspondence may be entered into.

  • Entrants grant non-exclusive publication rights to the work, and rights to develop illustrated materials based on the work, to QWC and/or illustrators engaged by QWC, if selected as Winner or a Runner-Up.

    • A separate contract/licensing agreement will be issued.

  • Entry is free for all GenreCon 2026: Inkling ticketholders and Queensland Writers Centre members (please ensure your entry details match those of your ticket registration and/or membership). $10 entry fee for non-members.
