What to Bring to GenreCon 2024
Whether it’s your first time at GenreCon or your fifth, every year is a bit different! Here’s a guide to what to wear and what to bring this year.
What to Wear
Friday 23rd February
After a day in your every comfies for the Nick Earls Novella Workshop (sign up now if you haven’t already), it’s time to don your bravest and boldest Young Adult Fantasy attire!
This year’s Launch Night theme ‘Lead the Revolution’ is a nod to our YA-focused 2024 program. From the Medoran Chronicles to The Hunger Games, from Bridgerton to The Mandalorian - represent your genre with a YA twist. Just don’t come as Effie Trinket - Lori-Jay may or may not have reserved that costume!
Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th
GenreCon is a space for you to learn, network and connect with other writers - there is so much to see and do! For this reason we suggest comfortable clothes and footwear. You never know when you might have to dash to a panel on the other side of the State Library! Here are our hot tips:
For out of town visitors, the average temperature in Brisbane in February is 29° and it is often humid
Light layers - the climate in different rooms can vary widely
Comfortable shoes - you might end up doing a lot of walking
All your previous GenreCon badges
Any bookish merch you might like to show off
What to Bring
Laptop/iPad
Writing materials (pens, paper etc.)
Water bottle
Snacks
Lunch (for Saturday) - Sunday lunch is catered
Spending money for books and GenreCon merch
Reusable shopping bag for all your new books
Perhaps a little excerpt of something you’ve been working on - hint, hint!
An open mind to learn many, many things
