What’s included in the General Admission ticket?

General Admission will get you into the Friday night launch event, Keynote speech, Shreader lunch, and all seminar and panel events on the 18 & 19 February (see the full Schedule).

You’ll need to purchase a separate ticket for Natasha Lester’s Sunday High Tea (exclusively available to ticketholders) - and for the Friday workshops, Plotting Masterclass and Creating Great Characters & Dialogue (open to the public).


What ticket options are available?

General Admission tickets are $349 for members of Queensland Writers Centre and other state writers centres in the National Writers Centre Network. General Admission is $399 for non-members.

Will the event be available via live stream?

GenreCon 2023 will be held primarily as an in-person event at State Library of Queensland, however a selection of sessions will be live streamed for interstate and regional writers. The Virtual Schedule will be announced and bookings for Virtual Admission tickets will open in January (join the mailing list for updates).


Are there pitching opportunities available at GenreCon 2023?

Yes! Pitches will be available exclusively to GenreCon General Admission ticketholders. Leading Australian publishers and agents will be joining us both in-person and virtually to take short, 15 minute pitch sessions. Bookings will be released soon - join our mailing list to be first to know when they open - and places will be highly limited.


I’m more of a reader - is GenreCon for me?

GenreCon is a writers’ conference and the content will focus on writing, but we invite all lovers of genre to attend. There’ll be opportunities to hear from some of your favourite authors on their craft, signings, and plenty of bookish content to inspire you.


I have a General Admission ticket - do I need to register for the specific panels and seminars I want to go to?

There is no need to register for individual events, panels and seminars included in the General Admission ticket - just choose which sessions you’d like to attend and rock up on time!

If at any point you’re uncertain as to where to go next, please find one of our friendly GenreCon 2023 volunteers or staff. They will be wearing their colourful, official GenreCon 2023: Forbidden Doors shirts and will gladly point you in the right direction.


Are there volunteering opportunities at GenreCon?

GenreCon is a rich and vibrant event thanks to our amazing volunteers. Our team are on the lookout for talented and eager volunteers that can help us with GenreCon 2023! Training will be offered as we get closer to the event. Love romance, but horror’s not your vibe? Into high-fantasy but can’t stand sci-fi? Don’t worry – GenreCon 2023 includes a huge mixture of craft-based sessions. You’ll be fine. Trust us!
