Calling all genre fiction writers!

GenreCon is less than 10 weeks away and we’re celebrating with the launch of the inaugural GenreCon Short Story Competition. Simply submit a 1500-word story relating to our ‘Poltergeists and Petticoats’ theme for your chance to win some fabulous prizes!

Supernatural beings, a classic romance tale or a mix of both? The choice is yours when you enter our GenreCon Short Story Competition. Just be sure to include an element related to either a poltergeist or a petticoat (or both) in your story to be eligible for entry. We can’t wait to read your masterpieces!

How to Enter
  • The competition is open to all ages.
  • All entries must be submitted online. Entries must be accompanied by the required entry fee. Entry fees are non-refundable.
  • Electronic submissions through this form only. No correspondence or feedback will be given, and only winners will be notified.
  • Your entry must be original, in English, unpublished and unproduced, not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission. Queensland Writers Centre retains one-time non-exclusive publication rights to the winning entries to be published in WQ magazine. Any piece posted online, anywhere other than a personal blog, is considered published.
  • Only electronic entries will be accepted. Please use standard font and double space your entry. Do not include your details on your entry.
  • BE SURE OF YOUR WORD COUNT! Entries exceeding the word limit will be disqualified.
